The Vivarium is a testing apparatus for speculative species cultivated to regreen an Anthropocenic world. The culmination of a floor-wide exhibit on ecological remediation at Dubai’s Museum of the Future, the project presents a self-contained ecosystem  that monitors engineered botanical specimens and ensures they are fit for their intended microclimates.

Based on the concept of a heliodon, a device for modeling solar position and light, the Vivarium is a climate simulator that tests life against the rigors of extreme climate change. Visitors are invited to select any moment of the year 2071 in Dubai, which the simulator dynamically reproduces as a solar illumination environment for six speculative species. A tool for imagining our future as planetary caretakers, the Vivarium invites visitors to experience the integral connection between sun, climate, and life in our shared world.
